I would prefer to limit cargo space at the very least.. or the otherway around: points gained per scrap dropped. That would work for me as well
Formula in the latter case would be: Scrapdropped*ShipLvl/5= points gained
however the reduced cargospace seems more realistic (in this futuristic game

)
