The site was down t188-t193, for me at least, others seem unaffected. I wasn't able to access one other website which is based in UK, perhaps some host issues?

Hmmm, you got a direct number to the president of planet Krilgore and you're still not happy?
But seriously, different countries have different phone number formats, so it will be difficult to get everyone happy by changing the format.
Can't you locate some setting in your browser to turn off this 'feature'?

Its more a question if its possible to prevent such things, if its not then its complete my fault yes

I am under the impression that if you do quick pickups you are more likely to get the same thing again and again... not sure if that is actually true though

300 points is the most common pickup at just under a 9% rate. If you get 5 300 Repairs in a row, there's definitely a problem though.
